31st Annual Big Dave Vet Homecoming Race Report:
High Point Raceway Celebrates a Racing Tradition
MT. MORRIS, Pa. (September 22, 2021) – The 31st Annual Big Dave Vet Homecoming weekend kicked off on Saturday, September 18 with GP Moto-X Country racing, and continued Sunday, September 19 with Vet Homecoming Motocross racing. The event, presented by Lojaks Cycle of Tarentum, Pennsylvania, hosted over 570 riders, with 772 racer entries throughout the weekend at legendary High Point Raceway for the ‘throwback’ event to celebrate High Point’s heritage and its founder “Big Dave” Coombs.
On Saturday, the GP Moto-X Country racing saw GNCC Racer, Liam Draper battle it out with Craig DeLong and Brenden Poling for the Pro overall win. DeLong would go 3-1 to claim second overall, while Poling rounded out the top three Pro finishers.
The 250 A class saw some great competition in the GP racing as Craig DeLong took the overall win after going 1-1 on the day. Draper would come back to take second overall with a score of 3-2 and Brenden Poling would finish third overall on the day after going 5-3 on Saturday. Lojak Cycle Sales’ Ryan Lojak was right behind them after a rough first moto he could come back to finish 4th overall.
Ages classes ranging from 25+ to 65+ were offered in the GP Moto-X Country, while a handful of support classes including a 125cc Support class and Mini Support class hosting the 65cc and 85cc machines. 25+ class winner, Trent Yoder went 1-1 for the overall win. Kevin Davis, Luke Prager and Cory Kiger rounded out the top four finishers on the day.
In the 30+ class it was Michael Fowler going 2-2 for the overall win, while David Muchisko earned the moto two win and Barry Hawk earned the moto one win. Marlin Plummer went 1-1 in the 40+ A class with Daniel Nowakowski going 1-1 in the 50+ A class. Ralph “Be” Thorn earned the win with a 3-1 in the 55+ class, and Greg Boone went 1-1 in the 60+ class to capture the overall win in the GP race.
Shelby Rolen clinched the overall win with a 1-1 while Kara Parsons and Amy Hafer rounded out the top three Women finishers. Reid Miller took the Open B overall win, while Jeremy Liston went 1-1 in the Open C class. Blake Miller went 1-1 in the 65cc class, while Jacob McPherson came through to earn the 85cc class win.
Saturday evening 21 Pit Bike racers took to the track to battle for the win in four different classes. Katie Goodman would whip the boys taking home the win in the No Clutch class, while winners were also awarded in the Clutch, Big Bike and Youth divisions.
Then on Sunday, the Big Dave Vet Homecoming motocross racing took to the track at High Point. Steven Roman Jr. had a great day going 1-1 in the 25+ A, 30+ A and Revolution 2 classes. Jimmy Knisley finished second in the 125 Support and 25+ A classes, while Bryan Bachman finished third in 25+ A and 30+ A.
In the 40+ A class it was Randy Lawson taking the overall win, and Kyle Strickland would bring home the 45+ A class win. The 50+ A class saw Robert Sparks, David Hand and Raymond Niebel battle it out through both motos. David Hand would earn the 55+ class win going 1-1 on the day. While in the 60+ class it was Dave Wolfskill earning the win over Greg Boone, Jay Kinder and Michael Holbert. Lamont Hunter came through victorious in the 65+ class going 1-1 over Guy Longwell and John McConnell.
Broc Streit earned the Revolution 1: Through 1998 class overall win ahead of Dylon Barr and Bob Dellone. In the Revolution 2: Through 2008 it was Roman with the win with Christian McCauley and Charles Bright came through second and third. In the Evolution 1 Through 1979 it was Joseph Wickersham going 1-1 ahead of Todd Streit who finished 2-2. Joey Deneen went 1-1 in the Evolution 2: Through 1984 class, while in the Evolution 3: Through 1986 saw Broc Streit beat out his dad Todd Streit for first overall on the day.
Kyle Skinkis battled back to earn the Warrior 25+ overall win, while in the Warrior 40+ class it was Joshua Plummer taking the win. Michael Hand, Christian McCauley and Tyler Nowakowski rounded out the top three in the 18+ class. The 25+ Women saw Shelby Rolen take the overall win while Tiffany Fanala and Kelly Lotts finished second and third. In the 250 Support class it was Tate Elliott followed by Dylon Barr and Cody Taggart.
Colton McKnight, Cooper Johnson and Tripp Sharp took park in the Mini Support (65cc and 85cc) class and rounded out the top three finishers. In the Sportsman class it was Jeremy Liston going 1-1 over Nathan Soubeyrand and Dylon Graham.

- Marla Frey – Springdale, PA - Mini Cycle 0-70cc (Pre-1990) Winner
In addition to the on-track racing action both days, the off-track action Saturday evening was just as wicked as the karaoke kicked it up a notch up with Racer X John. The singing talent runs deep among moto fans in western Pennsylvania.
